You can cross off your to-do list plans to visit Padre Island National Seashore this summer to watch sea turtle hatchings race for the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. That's because the park is suspending those public events due to the coronavirus pandemic.
These public release events have become increasingly popular and regularly draw crowds between 700 and 1,200 participants. This demonstrates both the success of, and the incredible public support for, the Kemps ridley sea turtles, the most endangered of all sea turtle species.
